AI flashcards are only worth having if they come from your material. A generated deck about a topic is a worse version of a textbook; a generated deck from your lecture is the thing you are actually tested on. What the AI does, and what it does not

It reads your notes and writes cards from them: one fact, definition, formula or cause-and-effect per card, a short question on the front and the shortest complete answer on the back. It is instructed to use only what is in your notes and to skip headings, dates and anything that is not study material.

It does not go and find facts elsewhere, and it does not decide what your course covers. If something is missing from your notes it will be missing from your cards, which is the honest limit and the reason every card shows its answer where you can check it.

Why generated cards usually fail

Two ways. Cards that restate a whole paragraph, which you cannot answer from memory, and cards about a topic in general rather than your version of it. The first is a writing problem and is handled by the rules above. The second is why this only takes your own material as input.

Yes. Paste up to 30,000 characters, or upload a lecture PDF of up to 20 pages, and the deck is written in a few seconds.

Are AI flashcards any good?

They are as good as the notes and the rules behind them. Cards written from your own lecture, one fact each, with the answer visible so you can delete a wrong one, are better than a downloaded set about the same topic. Cards generated about a topic in the abstract usually are not.

Is there a free AI flashcard generator?

The decks on this site are free to read in full and the onboarding makes three cards from your own notes free. Unlimited decks from your own material is the paid part, priced on the paywall.

What stops it making things up?

It is told to use only what is in your notes, and every card shows its answer. You are the one who knows the material, which is why nothing is hidden behind a flip you cannot check.
