What works

Any PDF whose text can be selected: lecture slides exported from PowerPoint or Keynote, a chapter, a study guide, a set of typed notes. Up to 20 pages and 15 MB per upload, and the first 30,000 characters become the deck.

What does not

A PDF that is really photographs — a scan of a textbook, or pictures of a whiteboard — has no text to read, and the app will tell you so rather than making something up. Paste the text instead, or type the handful of facts that matter.

Why slides make good cards

Slides are already broken into single ideas, which is the shape a flashcard wants. A lecture deck usually produces cleaner cards than continuous prose.

Then the daily review

Once the deck exists, each card comes back just before you would lose it. Ten minutes a day, only what is fading. See turning pasted notes into cards for the same thing without a file.

Questions

Can I turn a PDF into flashcards?

Yes, if the PDF has real text rather than scanned images. Upload it and the cards are written from what is in it.

How many pages can I upload?

Twenty per upload, and three uploads a day. For a longer document, upload the chapters you are actually being tested on.

Does the file leave my computer?

The text is extracted in your browser. Only that text is sent to be turned into cards, not the file itself.

What about a scanned book?

It will tell you no text was found. That is deliberate: inventing cards from an image would be worse than refusing.
